Kansas Promise Act

The Kansas Promise Scholarship Act provides service scholarships for students to attend an “eligible postsecondary educational institution” in specified programs. This exciting opportunity allows Highland Community College to offer a last dollar scholarship opportunity for you!

This law was signed by Governor Laura Kelly to assist those attending Kansas community colleges and technical colleges.

Allied Health Program includes: EMT: Basic, Medical Aide (CMA) and Nursing Aide (CNA) 

Per HB. 2064 section 3b, 4c: an eligible postsecondary educational institution that designates an additional promise eligible program pursuant to subsection (a) shall maintain the promise eligible program designation of such program for at least three consecutive years. After maintaining such program for at least three years, the institution may designate a new promise eligible that corresponds to a high wage, high demand, or critical need occupation to replace existing promise eligible program.

Students

For students to be eligible for a service scholarship, they must:

• Be a Kansas resident; AND
• Have graduated from a secondary school within the preceding 12 months or have attended a secondary school and obtained an equivalent credential within the preceding 12 months; OR
• Be 21 years of age or older and a Kansas resident for the preceding three consecutive years; OR
• Be a dependent child of a military servicemember permanently stationed in another state and who, within the preceding 12 months, graduated from any out-of-state secondary school or obtained a high school equivalency.

Students must:

• Complete the required scholarship application;
• Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid;
• Enter into a Kansas promise scholarship agreement; and enroll in, and complete within 30 months of first being awarded a Kansas Promise scholarship, an eligible program at an eligible institution.
