Taylor Breaks Record at Highland

Mary Kate Taylor, a freshman from Chillicothe, MO, set a new Highland Community College record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:37.59 just four seconds off the national qualifying standard. This would place her 1st in the event at the Darrel Gourley William Jewell Invitational on Saturday, April14.  The old record of 12:41.59 was set by Samantha Waldner in 2009.  Taylor is currently ranked 14th nationally, and 10th nationally in the 10,000 meter.

Three Scotties made it to the finals in the 100 meter with Keidra Wade (St Louis, MO) leading the way with a 3rd place finish running her fastest time of the season in 12.56. Samantha Meisenheimer (Baldwin City) finished 6th and Courtney Frady (Holt, MO) finished 7th.  Wade also finished 3rd in the 200 meter with Frady at 5th place and Meisenheimer finishing 8th.  Highland’s 4 x 100 relay with Meisenheimer, Frady, Blaser, and Wade finished 2nd with a season best time of 50.64

In the field events, freshman Randi Blaser (Lawson, MO) placed 3rd with a jump of 1.45 meters. Rebecca Hasenkamp (Soldier) placed 3rd in the javelin, with Erica Dwerlkotte (Frankfort) throwing a season best of 31.75 meters placing 6th.

“We had a good day at William Jewell. We took just seven team members to this meet and they placed 5th overall, scoring 60 points against all four-year colleges. The team is continuing to improve each meet which is a good sign.  Some will participate this coming week at the KU Relays, and then we have Emporia State’s midweek meet on April 25, with our Region Meet coming up May 4,” Coach Bond stated.
