The Highland Community College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed on Saturday in the famed Woody Greeno Invitational Meet, hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The seventh ranked Scottie women finished in 23rd place as a team with 693 points. The 10th ranked Highland men finished in 25th place, scoring 793 team points. The Air Force Academy women were the team champions while Colorado School of Mines took the men’s championship. Laura Galvan of Kansas State won the women’s race in 21:10.9. Sean Gildea of Colorado School of Mines took the men’s individual championship with the time of 24:45.0.
Sophomore Mary Kate Taylor (Chillicothe, MO) again paced the Scotties with a 76th place finish in 23:58.6. Freshman Hanna Olson (St. Joseph, MO) finished in 136th place with a time of 25:04.9. Freshmen Crystal Hoard (Randolph), Mandy Wilson (Auburn), and Veronica Gallegos (St. Marys) rounded off the scoring for the Scotties by finishing in 185th, 198th, and 223rd places respectively.
The Scottie men were led by freshman Seth Parres (O’Fallon, MO) with a time of 28:00.0, good for 152nd place. Freshmen Miguel Hernandez (Del Valle, TX) and Brett Simshauser (Cuba, MO) finished in close proximity for Highland’s next two scorers. Hernandez finished in 229th place with a time of 29:10.1 while Simshauser was the 231st place finisher in 29:10.4. Sophomore Derek Wright (McLouth) finished in 249th place with a time of 29:39.5. Sophomore Tim Borger (Eudora) was the Scotties’ fifth runner with a time of 30:01.5, good for 259th place.
The Scotties take a week off before running at Emporia State University on Friday, September 28. The meet is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
