The Highland Community College football team cruised to a 35-3 home and Homecoming victory over the Iowa Central Tritons on Saturday afternoon to get its fifth win of the season.
The Scotties, 5-2 overall and 2-1 in Jayhawk Conference play, found themselves behind 3-0 after one quarter on Saturday, due in large part to two Scottie lost fumbles and an interception. When the offense continued to struggle, head coach Aaron Arnold turned to sophomore back-up quarterback Kyle Todd (Elizabethtown, KY) to get things rolling and he did just that as the Scotties ran up 35 unanswered points and the win.
Todd attributed to all five Scottie touchdowns and led them in both passing and rushing yards. He connected on 21 of 28 passes for 201 yards and four scores while also rushing five times for a team-high 61 yards and one touchdown. Todd found freshman Bob Pugh (Foley, AL) for one score, and two passes on the day for 26 yards. Freshman Troy Grant (Tampa, FL) caught four passes for 23 yards and one touchdown. Freshman Dante Starks (Overland Park) caught three passes for 23 yards and a score while freshman John Becker (Clearwater) caught one pass for nine yards that went for a touchdown.
The Scottie defense also contributed to the win, holding the Tritons to 127 yards of total offense. Tyree Horton (Homestead, FL) and Cedrix Reed (Foley, AL) each had nine tackles and both recorded a sack, as did sophomore linebacker Levi Huneke (Sabetha).
The Scotties next travel to take on the #5 ranked Hutchinson Blue Dragons on Saturday, October 18. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
