The Highland Community College football team fell to the Independence Community College Pirates on the road on Sunday afternoon by the final of 31-24.
The Scotties finished the season with a 2-7 overall mark and 1-6 record in Jayhawk Conference play. Highland played their best game of the year on the offensive side of the ball but could not overcome what likely was their worst showing defensively. Freshman quarterback Desmond McGee (Wichita) had his best day as a Scottie, rushing 13 times for 137 yards and two touchdowns while completing 14 of 28 passes for 197 yards and one score. Freshman wide-out Shunquez Stephens (Flowery Branch, Ga.) caught five passes for 61 yards and a touchdown. Freshman wide receiver Keith Marks (Lee’s Summit, Mo.) caught four passes for 83 yards.
Defensively, the Scotties were led by freshman linebacker Marlon Williams (Overland Park) with 10 total tackles, including six unassisted stops and one interception. Sophomore linebacker Tevin Hanley (Riverdale, Ga.) had nine total stops and a sack while freshman defensive back Tyrell Curry (Rock Hill, S.C.) also had nine total tackles.
