The Highland Community College men’s basketball team traveled to Beatrice, NE, over the weekend and picked up a big win over host Southeast Community College.
The Scotties, 9-4 overall, defeated the #4 nationally ranked SCC Storm by the final of 69-67 on Saturday night. Highland used a strong first half, leading 37-26 at halftime, and an early run that gave the Scotties an 18 point lead before having to hold the Storm back in the final minutes. Highland was led by sophomore Marc Ellis (Highland) with 20 points and fellow sophomore Martell Collins (Milwaukee, WI) with 18 points and eight rebounds.
On Friday afternoon, the Scotties took on the #8 ranked Central Community College from Columbus, NE. Highland played well in the first half, building a 41-34 halftime lead. In the second half, Central made a run with 10 minutes to play to tighten the score and eventually took the lead for good with just 10 seconds to play. A Scottie three point attempt fell short at the buzzer, giving Central a 76-75 win. The Scotties were paced by Collins who scored 34 points and grabbed 17 rebounds.
The Scotties next travel to MSU-West Plains on Tuesday, December 17 for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
