Scottie Men Get Pair of Wins
The Highland Community College men’s basketball team swept a pair of home games in convincing style to move to 6-4 for the season. On Tuesday night, the Scotties avenged an earlier loss to defeat the Hesston Larks by the final of 90-72. On Friday night, Highland completed the season sweep with a 97-66 win over Wentworth Military College.
The Scotties struggled to control the Larks long range shooting with Hesston connecting on eight of 16 three-point attempts in the first half, knotting the score at 39-39 at halftime. In the second half, the Highland defense turned up the pressure and the Scotties were able to pull away in the final 10 minutes for an important Region VI win.
Highland was led by sophomore De’Andre Upchurch (Flint, MI) with 24 points. Sophomore Antonio Walker (Dublin, GA) had another double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Roderick Camphor (Baltimore, MD) added 18 points.
Against Wentworth, the Scotties got their offense going early and led 49-27 at the break. Highland kept the game out of reach throughout the second half, shooting 59 percent from the field for the game en route to the victory.
Upchurch led all scorers with 28 points, connecting on five three-point shots. Walker had yet another big night for the Scotties, shooting a perfect 7-7 from the floor for 20 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Camphor knocked down 17 points.
The Scotties will conclude the semester with a Region VI Division II contest at home against Brown Mackie College on Thursday, December 15 at 7:00 p.m.
