The Highland Community College women’s cross country team finished in third place as a team at the Region VI Meet held last Saturday at Johnson County Community College, the highest a Scottie team has ever finished as a NJCAA Division I member.
The 15th nationally ranked Scotties scored 114 team points behind champion Johnson County with 66 points and Allen County with 69 points. Butler County’s Fiona Masai took the individual title with a time of 18:44.1.
Highland was led by sophomore Mary Kate Taylor (Chillicothe, Mo.) with a fourth place finish in 19:30.9. Freshman Hannah Olson (St. Joseph, Mo.) continued her solid first season with an eighth place finish in 19:41.2. Freshman Mandy Wilson (Auburn) finished in 30th place in 21:04.8 while fellow freshman Crystal Hoard (Randolph) was the 33rd place finisher in 21:17.4. In possibly the best performance of the day, freshman Raquel Dungey (Independence) was the Scotties fifth place finisher in 39th place overall with a time of 21:29.3.
The Scotties next travel to the NJCAA Division I Cross Country National Championship Meet held at Rend Lake College in Ina, Illinois on Saturday, November 10. The meet begins at 10:00 a.m.
