Peuker Plaza to be Dedicated October 27

published October 12, 2018

The dedication of Peuker Plaza is slated for October 27 at 11 a.m. The Plaza, located on the west side of the Highland campus across from the Walters Wellness Center, was built in memory of Myrtle Peuker, a long time Highland resident.

Peuker purchased a home on the site in 1960, maintaining that as her residence for the next 35 years.

“Her home was filled with good humor and love,” Janet Peuker Spangler, daughter of Myrtle Peuker said of the home. “When she passed we decided the best way to honor our mother was by creating a place where people could pause and enjoy nature much like our Mother did.”

Highland Community College President David Reist said of the Plaza, “Highland Community College was privileged to help the family find a way to honor the memory of Mrs. Peuker. The plaza will serve students and the community of Highland for generations as a place to gather and reflect.”

The public is invited to join the college and community for the dedication on October 27 at 11 a.m. prior to the Homecoming Football Game vs. Dodge City CC at 1 p.m.
