Highland Community College running back Isaiah Ming (Kansas City) has been named the NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Scotties’ 41-34 win over Jayhawk Conference foe Coffeyville on October 24, a suitable day for Ming as he joined his fellow sophomore student athletes in celebrating their final home game of the regular season. On the day, Ming had 21 carries for 113 yards and three rushing touchdowns, three receptions for 34 yards, and a receiving touchdown. He also converted a key 4th and 1yard late in the game with a 2 yard carry that allowed the Scotties to run out the remainder of the clock, hold the lead, and gain the victory.
As a team, Highland converted a team record 34 first downs and also set a team record for most points scored against Coffeyville (41). Quarterback Kahlil Render (Homestead, FL) threw for 397 yards with two passing touchdowns and also ran for another 76 yards. His longest pass of the day was a 68 yarder completed to John Becker (Clearwater). Highland had 629 yards of total offense.
The Scottie defense held Coffeyville to season lows in points (34) and total yards (364). Coming into the game, the Red Ravens averaged 516 yds/game and 56 pts/game. The Scotties now hit the road for their final two games of the season, traveling to El Dorado to face league-leading Butler on Saturday, October 31, at 1:30 pm, and then closing out the regular season at Dodge City on November 7.
