After being selected Third Team All-American this past basketball season, Highland Community College guard Ryann Bowser (Holton) has been selected to play in the 2013 NJCAA Coaches Association All-Star Games on the campus of Northwest Florida state in Niceville , FL July 27-28. Highland President David Reist shared the Scottie pride in Bowser’s selection. “Our women’s basketball team has enjoyed incredible success in the past two years that is now crowned with the selection of a student from the local area as a participant in a national all-star game. This selection just makes it that much more fun to watch this team since it is so obvious how hard they work, how much they enjoy the game, and how hometown area athletes are instrumental in this Scottie success. I am really looking forward to watching Ryann and the 2013 team have another successful year.”
Over 100 women’s basketball players from across the country were nominated for this event, and a committee made up of coaches from across the organization (Division I, II, and III) surveyed the nominees and selected the teams. This past season Bowser helped the Highland Scotties win their first Region title in almost 40 years and a fifth place finish at the National Tournament.
The All-Star weekend includes the official Hall of Fame banquet to honor the 2013 class of Alfreda Harris, Kim Ortega, Susan Summons, and Gwyn Young on July 26 and four games featuring the All-Star selections on July 27-28.
