The Highland Community College women’s cross country teams competed on Saturday morning in Lawrence at the Haskell Indian Nations University Invitational.
The women Highland Harriers, ranked 12th in the nation, finished in sixth place as a team with 146 total team points. Baker University won the team championship with 49 points. Unattached runner Natalie Becker won the individual title with a time of 18:25.62.
The Scotties were led by sophomore Mary Kate Taylor (Chillicothe, MO) who finished in seventh place overall with a time of 19:06. Former Scottie Sarah Williams, now at Peru State College, finished just ahead of Taylor in sixth place. Freshman Hannah Olson (St. Joseph, MO) finished in 16th place in 19:51.96. Freshman Veronica Gallegos (St. Mary’s) had her best day as a Scottie with a 42nd place finish in 21:02.34. Freshmen Mandy Wilson (Auburn) and Crystal Hoard (Randolph) finished back-to-back in 52nd and 53rd places.
The Scotties next travel to Johnson County Community College on Saturday, October 13. The meet begins at 10:00 a.m.
