Fresh off their back to back NJCAA Region VI championship, the women’s basketball team at Highland Community College earned the number two seed in the NJCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Tournament, to be held for the next two years on the campus of Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, runs March 18-22. The Scotties’ first game will pit them versus #15 seed Essex County from New Jersey at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, March 18. Video streaming of the game will be available on the NJCAA Web site.
The Scotties made the National Tournament by defeating Johnson County for the second year in a row in the final game of the Region VI Tournament. This year’s score was 54-52. In the regular season, the Scotties took the first game on the Cavaliers’ home court – where they will be playing in the National Tournament – and then dropped their home game to Johnson, setting up the rubber match in the finals of the Region VI Tournament. The Scotties, coached by B.J. Smith and Jillian Palan, have a 30-2 record going into the National Tournament.
