The Highland women’s basketball team made the short trip across the border to Trenton, Missouri to take on the North Central Missouri Pirates on Saturday and came away with a 72-49 victory to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Highland led by as many as 14 in the first half and took a 35-28 lead into the halftime. "We really need to learn to have discipline, both offensively and defensively when we get a lead," said head coach BJ Smith.
The Scotties started off the second half with two 3 pointers by Carina Jackson (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and used a balanced attack to stretch the lead out to as much as 28 before settling for the final score of 72-49.
Janelle Sailing (Lathrop, MO) led the Scotties with 17, followed by Ryann Bowser (Holton) with 14, Jackson had13, and TaMiya Green (Lawrence) with 10. "Road wins are never easy, but our room for improvement is exponential. We just have to stay focused on what our goals are," said Smith.
The Scotties start Conference and Region play this Tuesday at Fort Scott.
