The Highland volleyball team put together a 5-0 week last week by going 4-0 at the KCKCC Tournament and picking up a road KJCCC win over Labette to move their win streak to nine matches and their record to 19-2.
With last week's performance, the Scotties have jump four spots to #5 in the NJCAA Division II rankings, a ranking that is believed to be the highest in school history.
On the season Highland has enjoyed contributions from several ladies to lead to their 19-2 record and 3-1 mark in the KJCCC. The Scotties are 15-1 in Tournament action this season and the two losses on the season have come to teams currently ranked #1 and #2 in the latest NJCAA DII polls. Highland has six wins over currently ranked NJCAA DII teams.
As a team Highland ranks Top five in several categories in the KJCCC including third in kills, assists, and digs while checking in fifth in kills and assists per set. The Scotties also rank eighth in total blocks and ninth in digs per set in the KJCCC. In the Nation Highland is a Top 10 team in assists and kills ranking seventh and eighth, respectively while coming in at 11th in the Nation in kills and assists per set.
Emma Cohalla leads the team in kills with 235 just 10 off her total last year, while three other girls have 120+ kills and another has over 90 on the season. Katie Pearson continues to be a maestro on the court orchestra things on the court at setter and has 757 assists on the season along with 197 digs. Myla Turner leads the team in digs with 314, while Cajia Allen who has seven double-double's on the season has 205 digs and 208 kills on the year. Kirsten Johnson and Amber Hildebrand both have been strong defensively with over 130 digs each. Seven ladies have 10 or more blocks on the season with a trio north of 30 each including Hannah Williams who had 52 blocks on the year.
The season continues for the Highland volleyball team with plenty of home cooking as they will host Fort Scott in KJCCC play on Wednesday, September 26 at 5:30pm at Ben Allen Fieldhouse. The Scotties remain at home for their next four matches following the showdown with Fort Scott as they will host Ottawa JV and Southeast CC on Friday, September 28 starting at 3pm for a Triangular and Scotties will host a Quad on Tuesday, October 2 and will play at 2 and 4pm against Bethany JV and Iowa Lakes CC.
