The Highland track and field team competed in the Zach Kindler Wildcat Open Saturday afternoon to get a final tune up before heading into the KJCCC and NJCAA Region VI Championships this coming Thursday-Saturday. Team members set 17 new personal bests and broke one College record at the meet Saturday in Baldwin City.
Kira Williams (SO, Topeka) stood out among the competition, finishing 1st in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.87, breaking the old Highland record she set last season of 1:03.81. Williams also finished 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.69.
Coshan Campbell (SO, Bahamas) brought home the gold in the 400 meter run with a time of 56.19, less than a second away from the Highland record of 55.88 set last year by Kyelah Hodges. Campbell also ran the 200 meter dash for the first time this season and finished 4th with a time of 25.37.

On the Men's side, Saulo Yoel (FR, Houston, TX) had a break out meet. He finished 2nd in the 1500 meter run, setting a personal best 4:06.95 in that event. He followed that with a 5th place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:59.31. Zekarias Philipo (SO, Houston, TX) finished in 3rd place, right behind teammate Yoel, in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:07.15. SenQuavious Johnson (SO, Reynolds, GA) took 3rd place in the 200 meter dash running a 21.87, less than a second off the Highland record of 21.06 set in 1999 by Kenny Shields.
