Business instructor Carrie Miller and four students from the Highland Community College Technical Center joined approximately 5,000 students, advisors, and guests for the Business Professionals of America’s (BPA) 49th National Leadership Conference. Activities included general sessions with keynote speakers, business meetings, leadership workshops, contests, election of national officers, and tours of California’s sights and attractions. The highlight of the Conference was the presentation of the awards to the winners of the national contests.
Miller accompanied competition students McKenna Boller (Horton), Jacklynn Clary (Troy), Marissa Dexter (Horton), and Kaitlyn Logan (Pleasant Ridge), who are in the Administrative Assistant and Medical Office Assistant programs at the Tech Center, for the May 6-9 BPA competition in Anaheim. Boller received 3rd place in Fundamental Word Processing and 8th in Interview Skills. Clary placed 6th in Prepared Speech. Logan placed 10th in Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications and 11th in Keyboarding Production. All four of the students participated in the Administrative Support Team, placing 8th. Clary and Logan served as voting delegates for the state of Kansas, attending caucuses and the campaign rally. Boller and Dexter received the Ambassador Torch Award. This award is given for service in the community and being an active member in BPA.
