The softball team at Highland Community College has again reached the NJCAA District Tournament under Head Coach Heidi Jordan. After defeating Allen County in the first round, the Scotties now travel to Hummer Sports Park in Topeka for the second round on Saturday, May 4, weather permitting, and hopefully the Championship game on Sunday, May 5. Russell and Joann Karn will be providing video streaming of all the Scottie softball games in the Tournament. The video streaming can be viewed by accessing the College Web site at www.highlandcc.edu, clicking on Athletics in the horizontal directory, selecting Sports Live Stream, and then clicking on Softball. The games are currently scheduled for noon and 4:00 on Saturday.
The 2013 Scottie softball squad has departed from Jordan’s established pattern of dominant pitchers, having a team that is a national leader in several offensive categories and three team members who were the national Player of the Week for their offensive performances.
The 32-8 Scotties will open the second round with 23-20 Dodge City. The other two teams in the double elimination format are 31-13 Labette and 22-29 Brown Mackie. First pitch of the Highland/Dodge City game will be at noon on Saturday, with the second game – win or lose – at 4:00. Games Sunday are at 10:00 am and noon, with a 2:00 game if the Championship is not decided in the noon game.
