Highland Program Builds Podium

For years, Highland Community College president David Reist has wanted a nice podium for use at College events, particularly commencement.  Ever conscious of price tags, he was unwilling to pay for a commercial wooden podium that would meet the needs of the various events.  It needed to be well-constructed with shelves and wheels.  Right up the alley of instructor Jim Dame’s building trades program.  So Reist provided Dame with his ideas and Dame and his students took it from there.  The result exceeded Reist’s expectations and will be used at Highland events for years to come.  Building trades students Dalton Masters (Troy) and Michael Deal (Atchison) worked with Dame to design and complete the project.
