Highland Nursing Students Promoting Heart Health

After learning that heart disease kills more women than all cancers combined, the Highland Community College Technical Center Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) students are going to “Paint Atchison Red for Women” and help to create awareness about heart health. As a service-learning project, the students in the ADN program are going to provide education and a health fair to the citizens of Atchison at the YMCA on February 3. Additionally, the ADN students will be visiting with the Atchison Child Care programs and local schools to teach about heart health.
Everyone in Atchison and the surrounding towns is encouraged to wear red on February 3 to show support for the American Heart Association’s (AHA) heart health awareness program. The students will be taking pictures of groups and compiling them to send to the AHA. The students invite the public to join with them to “paint” Atchison and the surrounding towns red by purchasing a red t-shirt they have designed to promote heart health.
The t-shirts are selling for $12 for sizes extra small through extra large. They are $14 for sizes 2XL and 3XL. T-shirt orders and payment are due by January 24 to Tracy Kane in the nursing department at HCC Tech Center. Orders will be delivered by February 1 so participants may wear them on American Heart Association’s “Wear Red for Women” Day on February 3. The ADN students thank the community for your support.
