Highland Harriers Open Season at Allen County

The Highland Community College men’s cross country team opened the 2013 season by finishing in second place at the Allen County Community College Kings Sandwich Classic meet held in Iola on August 23.

The Scotties finished the meet with 53 total team points. Allen County won the meet with 15 total points. Coffeyville finished in third place with 89 points while Hesston finished in fourth place with 90 points. Brandon Bernal from Allen County won the meet with a time of 16:02.8. 

The Scottie harriers were paced by freshman Brian Martinez (Pasadena, TX) with a seventh place finish in 16:36.9. Sophomore Brett Simshauser (Cuba, MO) finished in 10th place overall with a time of 16:51.9. Sophomores Chris babel (Hiawatha) and Seth Parres (O’Fallon, MO) were the Scotties third and fourth finishers. Freshman Tyler Caldwell (Rock Springs, WY) was the final scorer for Highland with a 24th place finish. 

The Scotties are on the road again next Saturday, August 31, at the Bob Timmons Invitational Meet hosted by Kansas University in Lawrence.
