Highland Community College Awards Nursing Degrees
published August 13, 2019Highland Community College held commencement exercises for the nursing program on August 9, 2019, in Culbertson Auditorium on the Highland campus. At the commencement and pinning ceremony Deborah Fox, President of Highland Community College awarded 21 degrees to students from the Highland Community College Technical Center in Atchison.
Two students were honored with special accolades at the ceremony: Jamie Ping received the Excellence in Leadership Award and Samantha Holm received the Nightingale Award.
Carina Agnew, Student Representative and speaker from the class told her fellow students, “Go into the world; do well, and do good.” She also replayed the nursing school experience for classmates, friends and family relating that they were the reason for the work and success.
Students read the Nightingale Pledge by candlelight, led by Highland Community College Director of Nursing, Dr. Jane Zaccardi, after receiving their nursing pin. The pinning ceremony is an honored tradition, signifying the student’s induction into the profession of nursing.
