Highland Community College students recently joined approximately 7,000 other students, advisors, and guests for the Business Professionals of America’s (BPA) 50th National Leadership Conference in Boston, MA. Activities at the Conference included general sessions with keynote speakers, business meetings, leadership workshops, contests, election of national officers, and tours of Boston’s sights and attractions. The highlight of the Conference was the presentation of the awards to the winners of the national contests.
Administrative Assistant instructor Carrie Miller and students Jacklynn Clary (Troy), Jolynn Grant (Hiawatha), Elizabeth Iles-Lucius (Atchison), and Abigail Vaught (Horton) participated in the Conference. Clary, Iles-Lucius, and Vaught participated in the Administrative Support Team competition and took top honors. In addition, Clary received 5th in Database Applications, Iles-Lucius received 1st in Intermediate Word Processing and 9th in Basic Office System Procedures, and Vaught received 5th in Fundamental Desktop Publishing. Grant and Vaught served as voting delegates for the state of Kansas, attending caucuses and the campaign rally. Clary and Iles-Lucius received the Ambassador Torch Award during the National Honor Awards Ceremony. This award is given for service in the community and being an active member in BPA.
