The estate of Earl and Elmyra Euler included a bequest to the Highland Community College Foundation to establish the Earl E. and Elmyra (Susie) J. Euler Memorial Scholarship Fund. The bequest creates an endowed fund at the College, and the proceeds will be used to provide scholarships for students who are graduates of Doniphan County high schools who will be attending the College.
A 1942 graduate of the College, Earl Euler went on to Kansas State to pursue a degree in Engineering before circumstances required him to return to Doniphan County to help with the family farm. Earl and Elmyra farmed in the county for over 60 years. According to J.D. Euler, executor of their estate, they lived simply, enjoyed reading, and Earl loved to tinker with machinery. As executor, J.D. Euler was able to assist the couple in creating a legacy based on the value of education and books with bequests to county schools and libraries.
David Reist, president of the College, expressed his appreciation to the Euler estate and the role played by J.D. Euler in providing support to education in the county. “The Euler estate bequest of nearly $500,000 represents the largest single gift to the College from Doniphan County residents. Coupled with the other bequests from the estate, the Eulers have created support for education and the joy of reading for county residents into perpetuity. We are very pleased to be part of the Euler legacy.”
